Dane Cook’s Brother Stole Millions from him: Read More

Dane Cook is an American stand-up comedian known for his energetic performances and unique comedic style.

Born on March 18, 1972, in Massachusetts, Cook rose to fame in the early 2000s through his appearances on comedy shows and albums. His humor often revolves around observational comedy, sharing relatable experiences and anecdotes from everyday life.

Despite garnering both praise and criticism for his approach, Cook's popularity soared, leading to successful comedy specials, television appearances, and film roles. His comedic talent and ability to connect with audiences have solidified his position as one of the prominent comedians of his time.

However, with success often times comes hardships that we normal (as in, not rich..) humans rarely have to deal with. Public critiscm, accusations of stolen material, and embezzlement.

Wait. Embezzlement? Yup. We're talking about Dane Cook's own brother here of course, Darryl McCauley.

Dane Cook recently was on Tom Segura's podcast, when asked about his brother stealing millions of dollars from him. Cook goes on to say that his brother was his business manager, but for years was sending him fake statements about the amount of money in his accounts.

So how did Cook figure it out? He says he hired a new business manager after deciding to move his business from Massachusetts to California, where Dane was buying a home. His current business manager, Darryl, was to be moved around the company, from business manager to, "merch, or something like that," according to Cook.

Darryl wasn't happy about that and pushed back against Cook for it, as well as Dane's new business manager. According to Dane Cook, he said, "I woke up on a Monday morning, I was laying in bed with my girlfriend, and I just turned and looked at her and said, 'I think my brother stole all of my money.'"

He goes on to say he went that morning to Bank of America in Santa Monica to view his accounts.

He could not access a single account. "I tried everything, I spoke to the manager, she called me into her office, and I gave her all this information, Federal pin, ID, nothing worked. I had zero access to my accounts." Dane mentions he never once looked at any of his accounts or checked on his money, and spoke highly of his brother and why he trusted him, saying, "my brother was my first best friend," even.

What would you do? I'm sure many of us have had a dishonest family member .. $5? $20? But what about millions of dollars in career earnings? What choice would you have, but to file suit against someone you thought so highly of.

Dane Cook had filed a lawsuit against his half-brother, Darryl McCauley, who had previously served as his business manager. McCauley was accused of embezzling millions of dollars from Cook's finances.

In 2010, McCauley pleaded guilty to the charges of theft, and it was reported that he was sentenced to prison for up to six years.
